How to Clean and Maintain Your Exhaust Fans

Exhaust fans enhance home comfort and can even help lower energy usage. However, they’re often overlooked when it comes to regular upkeep. Without routine maintenance, these fans can wear out faster or stop functioning properly. Learning how to clean and maintain them ensures they stay in good working order. The good news? It only takes a little effort to keep them running efficiently. Follow these simple tips to maintain your exhaust fan.

Maintaining Exhaust Fans

Exhaust fans are commonly found in bathrooms, where they help reduce humidity and keep the air fresh. Over time, dust and debris can accumulate on the fan’s blades and motor, affecting performance and lifespan. Regular cleaning is essential to keep them operating smoothly. Here’s how to do it:

Remove the Exhaust Fan Cover

Ensure the fan is turned off. Use a sturdy stepstool or ladder to safely reach the fan. Remove the cover by squeezing the metal tension clips holding it in place. For some models, you may need to unscrew it. Once removed, clean the cover with warm water and dish soap.
