Understanding the Performance Percentages

Sensible Energy Recovery (SRE): The high SRE percentages demonstrate the system’s ability to efficiently transfer heat, ensuring that tempered air is retained and not lost.  This means less work for the HVAC system to maintain desired temperatures. 

Total Recovery Efficiency (TRE): High TRE percentages indicate superior energy efficiency, reducing the strain on the cooling systems by expelling both heat and moisture during incidences of high relative humidity.

Balanced Ventilation

In tightly built homes and buildings, using exhaust-only fans can create negative pressure. Panasonic Intelli-Balance® ERVs prevent this by supplying fresh air to replace exhausted air, maintaining balanced indoor air pressure. Each unit is designed with four dedicated 6” duct connections: one draws in fresh air from outside, one delivers that fresh air into the living space, one pulls stale indoor air back into the unit, and one exhausts that stale air outside. Operating continuously at a low rate, Intelli-Balance® ERVs remove stale air while introducing clean, fresh air. With flexible installation options—ceiling, floor, or wall mounted—they can work independently or in conjunction with an HVAC system, making them ideal for placement throughout the home to meet IAQ and comfort requirements.

ECM Motor Technology

Intelli-Balance ERVs use two (2) DC brushless motors with built-in SmartFlow™ technology. When the ERV motors sense static pressure, speed is adjusted to ensure optimal CFM output regardless of duct configuration. This feature provides peace of mind, as the installer doesn’t have to worry about compromising the ERV’s performance. Both DC motors are rated for continuous run and are totally enclosed to ensure long-life and continuous, quiet operation. Each motor also comes equipped with a thermal cutoff fuse.

Multi-Speed Selector

Intelli-Balance® ERVs include a built-in, digital, multi-speed selector that provides the ability to select the required supply and exhaust airflow based on the model (30-110, or 30-140 CFM) with a simple press of a button. This truly customizable airflow capability creates balanced, positive or negative pressure within the home.

ASHRAE 62.2 Intermittent Timing Function

The adjustable intermittent timing function allows the user to set the number of minutes per hour the ERV should run. This gives scalability of air flow relative to property size; from the smallest multi-family to new home construction. This ensures consistent and controlled ventilation throughout the day for compliance with ASHRAE 62.2.

Operation in Cold Temperatures

Two temperate models are recommended for areas where temperatures do not often fall below 14°F (-10°C). Below this temperature, the outside damper closes, and the unit goes into a standby mode to prevent freezing of the core.

Hygroscopic Transfer Core

Indoor and outdoor air pass through Panasonic’s capillary core designed to transfer heat and moisture. This process tempers supply air while balancing moisture levels inside to outside. The core’s high latent energy (moisture) transfer makes Intelli-Balance ERVs ideal for use in most climate zones, as they help expel moisture during incidences of high relative humidity (RH) and help return moisture back inside during the winter for a more comfortable living environment. Core material with anti-mold treatment helps prevent mold.

Filters and Maintenance

n easy access panel allows for quick and easy product maintenance and filter checks. Intelli-Balance ERVs come equipped with two (2) MERV13 filters that clean the exhaust and supply air before passing through the ERV core, extending the life of the core. Convenient light and sound indicators signal when it’s time to clean the filters using the soft brush attachment of a vacuum. Alternatively, a MERV 6 washable filter may be used (optional). The supply air filter should be inspected every 90 days and replaced when dirty to maintain the ERV’s peak performance
